What is an identity?
An identity is the defined voice and standards an AI agent works to: tone, vocabulary, formatting, the things it must never say, and the rules it follows when it is not sure. Where an agent is who does the job and a skill is what they can do, the identity is how the work comes out sounding — like your business, rather than like a generic assistant.
Default AI writing has a recognisable voice, and customers have learned to spot it. "I hope this email finds you well", the three tidy bullet points, the relentless enthusiasm. For a business whose reputation rests on sounding like real people, that voice is a liability rather than a convenience.
An identity fixes it by writing down what your business actually sounds like: how formal you are, the words you use for your own products, the phrases you would never use, how you open and close a message, and what happens when the agent is not confident — usually, hand it to a person rather than guess.
Because the identity sits separately from the agents and the skills, one set of standards can cover everything: the enquiry replies, the order updates and the reports all sound like the same business. Change the identity once and every agent updates — you are not editing a dozen sets of instructions by hand.
