What is GEO?

GEO — Generative Engine Optimisation — is the practice of making a business visible, accurately described and citeable in AI-generated answers: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews. Where SEO optimises for a list of links, GEO optimises for being the answer.

AI engines choose what to say from what they can read and trust: structured data that states plainly what a business is, content formatted so a machine can lift a clean answer from it, and business details that agree with each other everywhere they appear — site, LinkedIn, directories, business profiles.

It matters because behaviour has already shifted: AI answer boxes appear on a large share of searches, and where they appear, far fewer people click the ordinary results. Being the business the answer names is the new first position.

GEO work looks like: schema markup, an llms.txt file, quotable first paragraphs, entity consistency, and a recorded baseline of how each AI engine describes you — so the change can be measured, not asserted.

The service: SilentShift does this work — GEO, from £1,000.
